  please take pity on me someone and help.. i was going to say that i suffer from aspergers syndrome but actually, i've come to rather enjoy it.. no, seriously, i really do have aspergers which is why my posts may seem a little odd to some of you.

  ok, they may seem bloody odd to most of you.. my world exists in a binary frame.

  things are or they are not.. i know that in the "real world" things might be or might not be as well as are and are not.

  Given how obvious it is to me that jesus/god don't exist, how come so many people think they do?

  Fear of death is a motivating factor in the belief of a God. Since neither the existence nor nonexistence of God can be proven, it leaves the way for many to believe. One could make an argument for a historical Jesus. I've only know of Flavius Josephus that made mention of Jesus around that time period (outside the writings of Jesus disciples). Josephus' reference was a vague reference too.

  However, keep in mind that Socrates never wrote anything and all our knowledge comes from his students Plato and Xenophon. Similarly Jesus supposedly never wrote anything and all his teachings came from his students. Who was the real Socrates or real Jesus? Who knows, they've both been dead for thousands of year.

  The Governing Body-Faded apostates?

  ive been here less than a year, but ive notice that the majority of us have faded for various reasons.

  we also read the stories of those who got disfellowshipped or disassociated themselves.

  in the majority of the cases, their parents will not talk to the children for years and the children will not talk to the parents even if they are dying.

  It is quite possible that a good portion of the GB know the entire religion is BS. They know the TATT better than anyone. So not quite sure what you are getting at. Are we to feel some empathy because they may very well be non-believers? They or even one of them could make some attempts in meaningful reform. However, they still push no education, no blood, shunning, and horrible treatment of children that have been molested.

  Isn’t that what we are doing?

  No, not at all. I left but my situation is different. Those that stay in faded are not responsible for the horrible policies that are enforced and written. These are men that make the rules, and are not simple "bidding their time." They are active in spreading lies and damaging the lives of countless ones.

  Are You "Technically" Still A Jehovah's Witness?

  even if you don't regard yourself as a practicing jw, some may view you simply as inactive, a lost sheep, etc.. if you were baptized but not disfellowshipped or disassociated, you may still be a jw---right?

  I haven't given a field service report since 1999 and that was sporadic. The last time I was really active was 1995 when I was 18. I don't consider myself a witness nor does anyone else. I've had Elders visit and told me that if I was to come back nothing I did over the last two decades would matter. Seems kinda of strange that you can fade and be inactive and viewed as a lost sheep, but if disfellowship you're garbage.

  The WT featured a Chinese scientist in one of their articles that converted to JW. He probably is used often for quotes so they have some credentials to their statements.

  it is astounding that someone like this creationist can have no appreciation for the scientific significance of his discovery.

  even in the face of evidence to the contrary, those who chose to believe rather than know will never forsake their ignorance.. alberta creationist discovers rare fish fossils in basement dig (full article and video).

  "an alberta man who discovered a school of rare fossilized fish while digging up a calgary basement believes the world was created by god a few thousand years ago.. it's for that reason edgar nernberg doesn't think the fossils could possibly be as old as paleontologists are estimating.. "i subscribe to the creationist position, and i believe they were laid down in noah's flood, about 4,500 years ago.

  I worked with a manager that was a devout Baptist. He gave a similar response to carbon 14. He also didn't believe in dinosaurs. He claims all fossil records were manufactured and a conspiracy (lies). I didn't bother arguing with him. I was once like him, but then again I was a 15 year old JW at the time.

  I think it is foolish to put dates on things like this because men cannot be trusted and are - sadly - LIARS and scam artist who will sell their mothers for money or fame. For everyone make such a claim, you can find another scientist making a counter claim.

  The beauty of scientific research is that the data is reported, and is tested by other scientist. It is standard scientific method to date with carbon 14 to get an accurate date, in addition to other methods.

  Case law is important, and this may just be an avenue to get more favorable rulings. With each favorable ruling they could use in defense for pending litigation.

  i was discussing this topic with two friends of mine, ex jws, a few nights ago.

  i think it would be boring after a while.

  you can't smoke, have to drink with moderation (difficult in europe with all the wines).

  I don't know about forever, but our life span is very short. A hundred or even two hundred years is not long at all. Too many of us won't see 100 years, and for those that get close the quality of life isn't that great. We spend 1/3 our life sleeping, and countless hours working. In a future society of healthy living with more time devoted to things I enjoy, then definitely wouldn't mind a very long life.
